Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids – or both in a single procedure. Upper blepharoplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia, while sedation is required for lower blepharoplasty.
If the procedure is performed under sedation, laboratory blood tests and completion of a medical questionnaire are required so that physicians can ensure there are no contraindications for performing the procedure.
A few days before surgery, patients are advised to avoid medications containing acetylsalicylic acid (Andol, Aspirin) or other drugs that prolong bleeding time. This helps reduce the risk of bleeding, promotes wound healing during eyelid correction, and shortens recovery time.
