What is the IMED Full Arch Concept?
IMED Full Arch Concept is used for the most complex cases of tooth loss when All-on-4 therapy is no longer possible. It is most commonly applied when there is insufficient bone in the upper jaw for conventional dental implants or after previously failed implant procedures.
Through advanced surgical techniques and the use of special zygomatic, pterygoid, transnasal, subnasal, and transsinus implants, the IMED Full Arch Concept® enables a fixed prosthetic solution even in cases of severe bone loss.
4 Main Principles of the Full Arch Concept
-
No bone grafting required – with highly experienced surgeons and advanced techniques, the procedure can be performed without bone augmentation.
-
Special implants – zygomatic, pterygoid, transnasal, subnasal, and transsinus implants make it possible to create fixed prosthetic restorations, just like in the classic IMED Protocol, in only 24 hours.
-
Classic IMED Protocol – everything is done in a single day and one procedure under general anesthesia, with temporary teeth provided the very next day.
- Exclusively in our day hospital – complete process in IMED, from diagnostics and consultation to surgery and prosthetic restoration.
One patient, one procedure, one team – a new smile in a single day!
How Does the IMED Full Arch Procedure Work?
Before the surgery, detailed scans (CBCT or orthopantomogram) are taken to accurately assess bone condition and select the most suitable implant type. Based on the scans and dental examination, the oral surgeon plans the implant placement strategy.
Types of implants used may include:
-
Zygomatic implants – instead of being placed in the jawbone like conventional implants, these are anchored into the zygomatic (cheekbone), which is extremely strong and stable.
-
Pterygoid implants – placed at the back of the upper jaw, anchored in the pterygoid bone, avoiding the need for a sinus lift.
-
Subnasal implants – for additional stability, placed in the anterior upper jaw, beneath the nasal cavity.
-
Transnasal implants – used in cases of complete bone loss in the anterior zone, anchored in the nasal concha.
-
Transsinus implants – pass through the sinus and are anchored into the upper jawbone near the nasal cavity.
The procedure lasts 2–3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia, making it completely painless for the patient. It is carried out by highly experienced oral surgery specialists – Dr. Krmpotić and Dr. Piljagić – subspecialized in the most complex implant surgeries, in collaboration with an anesthesiologist, prosthodontist, and dental technicians. The entire team consists of 12 professionals working together.
Recovery After the Procedure
After implant placement, the patient receives a temporary dental bridge the very next day, allowing them to eat, speak, and smile normally right away. Recovery is fast, with functionality restored as soon as the patient leaves the clinic. After 3–6 months, once osseointegration (implant bonding with bone) is complete, the permanent prosthetic restoration is made from titanium, zirconia, and composite.
The goal is to achieve maximum comfort and patient satisfaction, and our experienced team ensures that your stay in IMED Day Hospital is pleasant and pain-free.
