Mobile Dental Prosthetics

Removable dental prosthetics include prosthetic restorations that are not fixed in the patient’s mouth, but still ensure functionality and a natural appearance.

As fixed restorations using implants are increasingly replacing removable ones, removable prosthetics represent only a small segment of our work at the IMED Polyclinic and Day Hospital.

Types of Removable Solutions

Complete (Full) Dentures

These are made for an individual jaw in cases of total edentulism (toothlessness), when a fixed solution is not possible due to the complexity of the dental situation.

The base is the foundation of any full denture and is made of pink acrylic that mimics the natural appearance of gums and mucosa. The base adheres to the mucosa and replicates the lost soft tissues and alveolar ridge. The denture teeth can be made of various materials such as ceramic, composite, or acrylic, the same material used for the base.

The upper denture covers the palate mucosa, providing extra stability.
It’s important to note that wearing a denture requires an adjustment period, as patients may initially feel a foreign body sensation in the mouth.

Partial Dentures

Unlike full dentures used to replace all missing teeth in a jaw, partial dentures are suitable for patients missing one or more teeth.

They can be made of acrylic or metal alloy (wironit) and have structural elements that attach to the existing teeth.
It is essential that the teeth used for attachment are healthy and stable.

Types of Semi-Fixed Solutions

Combined Prosthetic Work

A combined restoration includes both fixed and removable parts.
It is used in cases where a patient is missing several teeth in a specific jaw segment and implant therapy is not possible.

The fixed part involves placing dental crowns on existing teeth to form a bridge, while the removable part restores the edentulous area.
The removable part is attached to the fixed one using invisible connectors, making this prosthetic solution aesthetically pleasing and functionally reliable.

Overdentures on Locators or Bar Attachments

Removable dentures can also be anchored onto dental implants rather than natural teeth, which increases their stability and practicality compared to conventional complete dentures.

Implants provide additional strength and security while still allowing the denture to be removed for proper hygiene maintenance.

Overdenture on locators

Involves placing 2 implants. After a 2–3 month healing period (osseointegration), locators are placed on the implants, and the denture is attached to them, ensuring greater stability.

Overdenture on a bar

Is placed on 4 implants in the upper jaw and 3 in the lower jaw. The implants are connected by a custom-made metal bar that the denture fits onto. This solution is long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing, and cost-effective.
