What is scar revision?
Scar revision is a set of treatments aimed at improving the appearance of scars – reducing their visibility, softening them, and blending them with the surrounding skin to achieve an even look.
Unfortunately, scars cannot be completely removed, but with modern scar correction methods, they can be made significantly less noticeable.
Depending on the type and depth of the scar, different methods are used to achieve the best possible results.
Types of scars we treat
-
Hypertrophic scars – thickened and reddish, usually resulting from surgery or injury
-
Atrophic scars – sunken scars, often caused by acne or chickenpox
-
Keloid scars – excessively developed scars that may spread beyond the original injury area
- Pigmented scars – darker or lighter than the surrounding skin, caused by inflammation or trauma
What does the scar revision process look like?
During the initial consultation, the doctor will analyze the type, size, and depth of the scar and recommend the most appropriate treatment method. Depending on the chosen method, it may be necessary to cleanse the skin and apply an anesthetic cream or local anesthesia.
The treatment lasts from 20 minutes to an hour – laser treatments and microdermabrasion are quick and painless, while surgical revision takes slightly longer and involves suturing.
In the initial healing phase, which lasts several months, scar tissue forms with a reddish tone. As the healing process continues, new scar tissue develops with a milder appearance – the redness fades, and the new scar gradually matches the color of the surrounding skin. After about a year, the skin fully recovers, and the scar becomes almost completely even with the surrounding area.
