Why Aren’t Teeth Naturally Perfectly White?
The color of teeth depends on their structure – beneath the translucent enamel lies dentin, which is naturally yellowish. In some people, the dentin is more pronounced, giving teeth a warmer hue even if they are completely healthy.
Both internal and external factors can affect tooth color.
External factors include lifestyle habits (smoking), consumption of staining drinks like coffee or red wine, and oral hygiene practices. Internal factors include genetics or the use of certain medications.
It’s important to note that a yellowish shade doesn’t necessarily mean unhealthy teeth, but it can affect the aesthetics of your smile. That’s why many patients opt for professional teeth whitening.
What is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is a non-invasive dental procedure that removes stains and discoloration from the surface of the teeth using specially formulated gels and light technology.
At IMED Polyclinic and Day Hospital, we offer two types of whitening- In-office (medical) whitening and At-home (cosmetic) whitening.
In-office (medical) whitening is performed under a dentist’s supervision using OPALESCENCE BOOST gel; the procedure lasts 40 minutes (2 × 20 min).
At-home (cosmetic) whitening uses OPALESCENCE gels with 10% or 16% hydrogen peroxide in combination with whitening trays. The 16% gel is worn for 4–6
How Does the Whitening Procedure Work?
Before the procedure, the dentist evaluates the patient’s dental condition and determines if they are a suitable candidate for whitening. The oral cavity must be healthy, clean, and free of active issues.
